Lake Okeechobee Ties Record Low Level

Fox News Live, this morning reported about the Lake Okeechobbee water level, drought, fires, alligators, and upcoming hurricane season. Last week it made ABC News with this story. A few weeks ago, it made MSNBC headlines. It's gotten pretty bad.

I am used to posting daily photos of my South Florida garden. But, since the drought and subsequent water restrictions, my garden has suffered greatly and I don't even want to post anymore. The two snakes in my small garden are fiesty and scare me out of the garden twice a week. They never used to bother me...I never even saw them.

I installed a drip irrigation system that has an automatic timer. Unfortunately, the battery died while I was out of state last week. Six days of no rain and no water killed nearly all of my vegetables. Some of them may bounce back. We'll see.

Pictures are coming soon....and I promise to get in a better mood soon.

  1. Aww, sorry it is crummy! I've been hand watering our veggies. I could probaby by pass the rules since it is a new planting as of two weeks ago. Things are doing "ok".

  2. I'm sorry to hear about the drought and your garden. I hope it comes back.
It is a dry year here also. It is supposed to be the worst fire season in history:(

  4. Oh, I'm so sorry! It's always sad to have a die-off. I hope your garden recovers. We'll probably be asked to ration our water usage soon, as this side of the island never gets enough water during the summer months.

  6. I'm sorry you are having such a time, Danielle! We were in a terrible drought last year. We still have watering restrictions, but things are definitely better. Tell me more about your drip irrigation system. How long can it be on one line? Does it become ineffective if it's too long? Do you even understand what I'm trying to ask?! :)

  8. Danielle, I was thinking a lot about water issues tonight...as I was watering my garden and washing dishes and just generally feeling guilty-lucky for that abundance.

I'm wishing you a swift end to drought. And, you know, some positive climate change. And some new veggies.
