Sweet Potato Flower

Sweet potatoes get flowers. Who knew!?

I showed the flower to a friend today, and she said it looks like a morning glory. Sure enough, sweet potatoes are in the same family as morning glories. I did a google image search for "sweet potato flower" and the first search result was a posting by a fellow garden blogger at MrBrownThumb.com. Last year, he went through the same thing when he saw a vine bloom in Chicago.

I have had the most beautiful sweet potatoe plants this year. I didn't know that it could be done. What I would like to ask is will they keep growning inside? We are to have frost tonight and I have moved them inside. Also I broke off a fewof the leaves is it possible to start them in water?

  7. I wish you can see my sweet potato vine. It is all over the house. I keep it down cutting almost every 4 days but it seems that by doing so it grows even faster. I planted last year and after the front it was dead. To my surprise, it came all by itself this year and it looks beautiful. Neighbors are "green" of envy.
