Miracle Fruit Growing Poorly
Back from vacation and checkin' out the garden status. I'm struggling with this young miracle fruit (synsopalum dulcificum) and I need some advise.
It's supposed to be a very slow growing plant; it indeed is. However, it should be a bushy, healthy plant given all the attention I pay to it.
The lower leaves are typically half brown. Is this how it's supposed to be during summer in zone 9b? It gets a quick mist of water every 30 minutes and filtered sun all day. It's grown nearly 12 inches in the last 6 months I've had it. I'm off to the Florida forum of GardenWeb.com for an answer.

I wanted to say that you have a really good blog. You have documented all of your projects really well and I have enjoyed reading it. I also noticed your Christmas page and I want to say how aesome that is. I love Christmas and wish I could program my lights but it just looks so complicated after seeing others set up.
Have a good day,
Jake
Your miracle fruit plant is doing much better than mine, which I kept as a houseplant here in New York and which inexplicably died after 6 months. I never did get to sample that miracle berry.
I have a miracle fruit tip for you. I know if sounds silly but the next time you finish off a jar of pickles, water your miracle fruit with the pickle juice-- they love it!
any attempts to use gibberellic acid on your plant? I recently purchased two plants online and received them in good condition (7" tall).
They have been outside my house for approximately 2 months (in the original containers) and I am now just starting to see some growth.
I live in San Diego close to the beach so typically a very mild environment. My concern is that we have been having an unusually long humid spell here and that may be causing the growth.
Hello,
Your plant looks good actually. How old is it. Has it been transplanted? What are you feeding it? Are you watching the pH of the water? I have been growing the Miracle fruit and the Bhut Jolokia plants. I have many seedlings of each. I am in Homestead, Fl. Have you tried Gibberellic Acid? I have with good results till a winter hit my trees. I have been looking for the formula I used so I can repeat my results. My email address is mmajic@bellsouth.net (for a quicker response.
Happy gardening,
