January Garden is Bleak

The cold 30 degree weather the past few weeks has killed so many of our plants. The one thing shing like a superstar...broccoli.

The broccoli has one little yellow flower on the side. If I let this go another few days, the whole thing would burst into flowers.

  1. Yes, the garden is bleak and bare! Nice to see your broccoli! My bananas were taken to the ground (lost 3 large bunches still on the trees) but the rest of my fruit went unscathed, amazingly! My Ponderosa and Meyer lemons are blooming like nothing ever happened! I noticed a few blooms on my navel orange tree today also. My mango tree doesn't even have any frost damage, and the brown turkey fig is bouncing back like a champ. My flowers, however, are a completely different story...so sad!

  2. Hi there, I've followed your blog for alittle while now. I'm in Orlando and I am hoping to start a garden soon (produce and flowers). I hope you dont mind the questions, do you plant produce from seeds or ones already started from the stores? Thanks! I cant wait to start.

  3. Wow I didn't even know broccoli could turn into flowers! I'm growing some for the first time right now and now I'm so glad I know this! Thanks!
