Day 54: The Box Progress

I've been very pleased with the progress on the box. I've been harvesting parsley, basil, sage, cilantro, and thyme since about Day 30. I've already planted more radishes so I'll get two-three crops of those. I'll trim up the marigolds soon because they are stealing light from the pepper plants.

The rabbits are eating the sunflowers and bush beans, so next year, I need to figure out something for that situation. One of four sunflowers made it. The biggest problems are the cornworms and cabbageworms. Also, I have to stay on top of the aphids on the cucumber and squash. It's a lot of work to keep this Box organic. Neem oil requires a lot more work than mainstream pesticides (poison) that can be found at nurseries and hardware stores. Oh well. I'm committed to it being organic, so I will deal with it.

Next year, I'd like to find a different kind of corn. I would love to get a cabbageworm-resistant variety, but I think that would mean it's GMO. Oh well. I'll pass on that too.

  1. Hey, aren't we zone 10? I can never get a clear answer on that.

  2. Thanks for updates! Hopes it all goes well on your vegetables.

  3. It's amazing to see your space progress over such a short time span. Keep up the good work.

    1. This looks great! You've really sparked me to get going with a "box" of my own. Of all the veggie gardens I've scoped out in Palm City, yours is the only one in full sun. That's how mine would have to be, so I have hope now that it will work.

  4. Love to see the progress. My own garden has taken over my entire space at the moment so I'll have to do a bit of work this weekend.

we just started a small Florida community and we'd love for you to stop by if you have a moment.
